In terms of their physical/chemical properties and volumetric/structural properties, coal semi-coke and medium-temperature coke have significant advantages over the typical “coke nut” traditionally used in the mentioned spheres of production:

  1. A higher reactive power in СО₂ at a temperature of 1000 ⁰С presupposing a higher economic efficiency of using semi-coke in the sphere of electrothermal production;
  2. A low ash-content and consequently a higher fixed-carbon content;
  3. A higher level of specific electrical resistivity contributes to an increase in the electrical resistance of the ferroalloy furnace charge over the entire temperature range of the process and so it leads to a decrease in heat generation in the furnace top zone, providing a deeper electrode seating, which contributes to an increase in furnace productivity and lower energy consumption, especially in case with slagless processes.

Quality of a reducing agent used in electrometallurgy is the higher, the lower its electrical conductivity and the greater its reactive power.

 

Reactive power of our product was determined with the use of certified equipment at the Karaganda Scientific and Research Center SRC “Ugol”

Having obtained values of reactive power of medium-temperature coke produced by “Evromet” LLP we have got an opportunity to compare them with the analogous indicator of other carbonaceous reducing agents.

The results obtained are presented in the Table 1.
